Phyllis Jane Presler

Phyllis Jane Presler (nee Smith), 90, of Birmingham, died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at her home after a lengthy illness. Phyllis was born April 19, 1921 in Ireton, Sioux Co. Iowa. She had been a Birmingham resident for the past 23 years moving from Westlake. She was a veteran of the Women's Army Corp. serving during WWII. Phyllis received her Masters Degree in Education from Iowa State University and had taught home economics and adult education in Iowa and Arizona Schools. She also taught at Lutheran West, Westlake, and taught adult education for the Cleveland Board of Education. She had also worked for the Agriculture Extension Service. She was a member of the Florence Congregational Church, life member of AMVETS Post #22 and American Legion Post # 397. She had been a charter member of theWestlake Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and had also been a member of the John Knox Presbyterian Church, North Olmsted. She was also a member of the Firelands Garden Club and enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and international travel. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alden Presler of Birmingham; son, Fred (Melanie) Presler of Amherst; daughters, Petrena (Rick Aylsworth) Voelker of Westlake and Marilla Presler of Atwater Twp; 6 grandchildren: Natasha Wicke, Alden Voelker, Lauren Presler, Justin Voelker, Rachel Presler, and Natalie Aylsworth; sisters Marjorie Smith of TX and Ardis Eilts of Iowa; cousins; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Albert and Nellie Olivia (nee Erickson) Smith; son, Charles Presler in 2007; and brother-in-law Bill Eilts. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors at 7:00 pm. A Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Florence Congregational Church, 11801 Edison Hwy State Route 113, Birmingham., Pastor R. Kelly Clemens will be officiating. Inurnment be in Cable Cemetery at a later time.
