Raymond J. Halliwell Sr., 85, of Birmingham, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born September 6, 1935 in Rittman,OH and grew up in Elyria. He had been a Birmingham resident for the past 51 years moving from Sheffield Lake. Raymond worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain for 36 years and retired in 1997 as a Tow Motor Operator. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for 25 years, Knights of Columbus, and the UAW #425 where he participated with the retirees. Raymond enjoyed woodworking, boating, casino bus trips, watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (nee Schmitz) Halliwell of Birmingham; sons, Raymond "Skip" (Darlene) Halliwell, Jr. of Birmingham and David (Becky) Halliwell of Norwalk; daughters, Cindy (Steve) Brown of Brooklyn, Gail (Kelly) Walker of Vermilion, and Laurie (Donnie) Lee of Birmingham; 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Mary Louise (nee Kennedy) Halliwell and his sisters, Rita Bersch and Alice Mitchell. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 2-6 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH. The Reverend Paul Schreiner will officiate. Interment will follow at Birmingham Cemetery. Friends and family who want to come are welcome to attend, but due to Covid-19, we are asking that people be careful to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and refrain from embracing.
