Raymond J. Maslanka, 90, of Vermilion, died Friday, November 4, 2016 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born January 21, 1926 in Vermilion and had been a life long Vermilion and Elyria resident. Raymond graduated from the Vermilion High School class of 1944 and was a WWII veteran of the US Army. He worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain on the bi-level loading cars, retiring after 30 years. Raymond was a member of the Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, going to casinos, and crossword puzzles. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Connie (nee Gray) Maslanka of Vermilion; sons, David (Carol) Maslanka of Myrtle Beach, SC and James (Ina) Maslanka of FL; daughters, Sally Ann (Tim) O'Neal of Vermilion, Cindy (Stewart) Arnold of AR, and Robin (Rick) Wiseman of New London; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Joan Miller of Vermilion. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Hogan; parents, Louis and Sofia (nee Reifert) Maslanka; brother, Peter Maslanka; and sisters, Anna Balmert, Louise Evechick, Elizabeth Lichack, and Gertrude Reifert. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November, 6, 2016 from 4-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. The Reverend Elizabeth Terrill will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
