Richard E. Beckwith, 98, of Vermilion, OH, died Thursday, March 23, 2023 at his son's home after a lengthy illness.
Richard was born Aug. 31, 1924 in Dansville, NY. His family moved to Rochester when Dick was a boy where he graduated from West High in 1943 with Phyllis. They married in 1948 and raised their three children. They wintered for over 40 years in Largo, FL and have been residents of Vermilion, OH for the past five years.
Richard was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving during WWII. He worked as a jeweler and then manager for William Scheer Jewelers, Rochester, New York and he also became the owner and operator of his family's business, International Laboratory Inc., Rochester, NY.
He enjoyed golfing, model airplanes, shell collecting, Barbershop Quartets and he was an avid sports fan. He was also a passionate pilot and enjoyed flying. Richard especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Phyllis (nee Roberts) Beckwith of Vermilion; son, John (Shari) Beckwith of Vermilion; daughters, Barb (John) McGowan of Fredericktown, OH and Sandra Beckwith of OR; grandchildren, Brian (Rachel) Beckwith, Adam (Ashley) Beckwith, Kelly (Rick) Barkschat, Phillip Hall, Johnathan (Christi) McGowan, and Josh (Andrea) McGowan; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vera (nee Price) Beckwith.
Private inurnment will take place at White Haven Memorial Park, Rochester, NY on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1 pm.
