Richard S. Jackson, 81, of Vermilion, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Hospice of the Western Reserve, Westlake after a lengthy illness. Richard was born July 21, 1932 in Cleveland and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 25 years moving from Cleveland. He was a veteran of the US Navy and worked for Ford Motor Co., Brook Park, as a mechanic for 34 years, retiring in 1988. Richard enjoyed boating, woodworking, and stock car racing. He was named Lorain County Stock Car Champion in 1954, 1955, and 1957. He is survived by his daughter, Jean (Patrick) Verlotti of Wellington; sons, Robert Jackson of Olmsted Falls and Rich Jackson of N. Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Christina, Nathan, Matt, Kayla, Brieanna, and Jeff; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Xavier, and Chandler; and brother, William Jackson of Medina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosella J. (nee Navratil) Jackson in 2010; daughter, Jill in 1976; grandson, Matt in 2008; parents, James B. and Ruth (nee Adkins) Jackson; and a brother, James.
