Richard Markle

March 1, 1919 — February 17, 2013

Richard Markle, 93, of Vermilion, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at his beloved home after a sudden illness. He was born March 1, 1919 in Westover , PA, and had been a Volunteer Bay, Vermilion resident for the past 45 years moving from Cleveland. Richard was a veteran of the US Army serving with the 85th Division, 37th Infantry that liberated Rome during WWII. He started as an apprentice Tool and Die Maker for Parkers at the age of 16 then worked for Alcoa as a Die Sinker for 30 years retiring in 1985. While working at Alcoa, one of his major projects was the NASA space capsules heat shields. Richard was proud to receive his 70 year pin as a 32nd Degree Mason with the Valley of Cleveland Scottish Rite; Charles T. Raymer Covenant Lodge #683, Euclid where he also earned his 70 year pin, American Legion, Al Koran Shiners, Turkey Foot Clan 75, Vermilion High 12, Euclid Veterans, and a long time member of the former Lyndhurst Baptist Church. He enjoyed boating and being on the water, traveling, camping, home remodeling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Violet Dunn Markle of Burnet, TX, daughters, Janit (David) King of Aurora and Sue Silvis of Vienna; grandchildren Lee (Jen) Silvis, Jenny (Rick) Coelho, and Pam and Andy King; great grandchildren, Mason and Gavin Coelho, sister, Ruth Maxwell of Ontario, CA; step daughters, Diane (Gary) McDonnell of Arlington, TX and Elissa Beach of Cedar Park, TX; and step son, Phil (Kelly) Dunn of Boerne, TX. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Kirtley Markle in 1986; parents, Curt and Bessie (nee Smith) Markle, brother, Neal Markle; and sisters, Jessie Lange, Nadene Wilkinson, and Jean Moore.
