Richard A. McQueen, 89, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 21, 2025, following a lengthy illness.
Born on January 26, 1936, in Brownhelm, OH, Richard was a lifelong resident of the Vermilion area.
For 57 years, he owned and operated Advance Sign Co., later McQueen Sign Co., before retiring in 2016. He took great pride in his work and the business he built.
A former member of Ely Masonic Lodge #424, Richard had a passion for gardening, fishing, and sports. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes, rarely missing a game.
He is survived by his sons, Eric (Ellen) McQueen of Huron and Aaron (Cynthia) McQueen of Hudson; his grandchildren, Matt, Caitlin, and Kate; companion of 25 years, Ann Anderson; his brothers, William (Catherine) McQueen of Virginia and Dale (Gerry) McQueen of Massachusetts; and his sister, Kathleen Queen of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Norma Ruth (née Schmidt) McQueen, and his sister, Patricia Skelly.
Friends may call Friday, May 30, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Inurnment will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
