Richard J. Reed, 85, of Englewood, FL, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in New Bethlehem, PA. He was born December 25, 1924 in Galesburg, IL and has been a Florida resident since 1985 moving from Vermilion. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving as a First CLass Gunners Mate in both the Atlantic and Pacific. Richard worked as a service manager for Walker Dodge in Vermilion, later know as Dick Baker Dodge, and retired in 1981 after 25 years. He had been a member of Vermilion Evangelical & Reformed Church, Ely Masonic Lodge #424; Amvets Post #22, American Legion Post # 397; and VFW Post # 7576. He was past president of the Vermilion Booster Club; and past patron of the Eastern Stars. He enjoyed building and racing stock cars. Survivors include his sons: Lawrence W. Reed of Snow Flake, AZ, Dennis (Nadine) Reed of Lisle, IL, and Terrence Reed of Snow Flake, AZ; 7 grandchildren: Rachel, Ryan, Jill, Richard, Jennifer, Julia, and Angela; and 5 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife of 47 years, Ruth Reed (nee Baumhart); parents, Earl Martin and Ruby Reed; brother, Earl Reed; and daughters-in-law, Roberta and Patricia Reed. Friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010 from 10 am until the time of services at 12 noon. The Vermilion Veterans Council and Ely Masonic Lodge will conduct services followed by a funeral officiated by Rev. Dr. Nick Cacciatore. Interment will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
