Richard D. Root, 62, of Vermilion, died Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Mercy Regional Medical Center from complications with COVID. He was born September 20, 1959 in Toledo and had been a life long Vermilion resident. Richard worked for Flow Serve, Independence, as a Pump Technician for over 15 years. He had also worked for Clovervale Foods, Amherst, for 16 years. Richard was an avid fisherman. He was a true gear head and loved tinkering on anything with a motor. He loved riding his motorcycle, racing cars, and going to the race track. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Crystal (Thomas Chelmowski) Kennedy of Delaware and Hannah Rinald of Corpus Christi, TX: son, Brian Root of Vermilion; grandchildren, Taylor, Nick, Kylie, and Angela; sisters, Terri (Joe) Pabon of Vermilion, Linda Zander of Vermilion, and Deb Gray of Toledo; brother, Ted Root of Dallas, GA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Richard Root; brother, Danny Root, and his nephew, Daniel Root.
