Richard J. Turton, 79 of Lorain, died Thursday, September 21, 2006 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthily illness. He was born June 12, 1927 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1945 and served in the United States Navy from June 16, 1945 - July 18, 1946. He worked in the maintenance department for U.S. Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and the United Polish Club. He also belonged to the United Steelworkers Local 1104. He liked to spend time with his family and enjoyed watching sporting events, particularly the Cleveland Indians and the Browns. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Theresa (nee Sklarek) Turton; Daughter, Nancy Guggenbiller of Lorain; Sons, Robert Turton of Wakeman and Kenneth Turton of Lorain; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Sister, Dorothy Nowicki of Lorain. Preceding him in death were his parents, Michael and Nellie Turton, and brother, Lloyd Turton. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Closing prayers will be said at the funeral home on Monday, September 25, 2006 at 9:30 am followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. The Reverend Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will be the celebrant. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. Memorial contributions may be made to Nativity BVM Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
