Robert C. Baswell, 84, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Community Health Partners West, Lorain after a lengthy illness.. He was born December 17, 1924 in Boonesville, Mississippi, and had been a Vermilion resident since 1954 moving from Memphis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. He worked as a Ding man for Ford Motor Company, Lorain Assembly and Avon Lake Plant. He retired Jan.1, 1990 after 31 years. He was a Life and Charter member of AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion and the UAW 2000 Retirees. Robert was an avid guitar player, singer, and band leader. Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca (Richard) Saam of Brooksville, FL; sons, Roger L. (Joann) Baswell of Pompano Beach, FL, Jerry W. (Euva) Baswell of Spring Hill, FL Raymond E. (Dina) Baswell of Brooksville, FL, and Robert C. Baswell, Jr. of Vermilion; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, Thelma Baswell on June 2, 1994 , parents, Robert Lee and Dora Fay (nee Dickinson) Baswell and a brother, Paul A. Baswell and a sister, Martha L. Ballard. Friends may call Sunday Jan. 11, 2009 from 4-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 7pm. Funeral services will be held at the Riddle Funeral Home, Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 at 11:00 am with Rev. Guy Morton officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
