Robert 'Bob' Kropf

Robert L. "Bob" Kropf Sr., 94, of Vermilion Twp., died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing Home, Huron after a short illness. He was born August 15, 1918 in Axtel , OH, and had been a Vermilion Twp. resident for the past 40 years moving from Amherst. Bob worked for Nordson for 39 years, moving his way up to human resource manager and retired in 1980. He had also worked at NASA Plum Brook Station and sailed the Great Lakes working on shipping freighters. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion and former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. He had also been a member of the Nordson Old Timers, Rotary Club, and at one time had been the president of the St. Joseph PTA. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, growing roses, woodworking, and bowled on various leagues in Amherst. He also enjoyed building Martin Coops and tracking their arrival and departure and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Donna Kropf of Vermilion, daughter, Kathryn Sherrard of Hedgesville, WV; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna (nee Heinzerling) Kropf; wife Florence Elizabeth (nee Schmitz); son Richard James Kropf in 1950; grandson, Donal Sherrard Jr.; great granddaughter, Katelyn Marie Sherrard; brothers Arnold and Leonard; sister, Hilda Kishman; and son-in-law, Donal Sherrard. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012 from 5-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at 9:30 am followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church 731 Exchange St. Vermilion. The Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
