Robert L. Harrell, 84, of Vermilion, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Kingston of Vermilion where he had been a resident for the past 5 years. He was born January 20, 1930 in Tupelo, MS, and had been a Vermilion resident since 1952 moving from Memphis. Robert retired in 1992 from Ford Motor Co., Lorain as a Ding Man after 40 years of service. He also served in the National Guard. Robert was a member of the North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in S. Amherst, where he served as an usher and an honorary trustee. He was also a member of UAW #425. He enjoyed metal detecting, gardening, and fishing. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Jayson) Samons of Norwalk Lyn Harding of Green, GA, Patsy DeBerry of WV, and Janice Lockhart of Amherst; sons, David (Diane) Riggs of Willard, Dennis (Melissa) Riggs of Wakeman, James (Kelly) Riggs of Bedford, KY, Joshua Harrell of Niles, OH, Wade Harrell of Elyria and Richard Harrell of Wellington; 28 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 4 sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (nee Wells) on October 10, 2010, parents, Lee and Martha (nee Cox) Harrell, sons, George, Paul Allen and Robert Lee Jr. Harrell; and daughter, Martha Jane. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 2-4p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 North Lake St., S. Amherst, OH. The Reverend Jayson Samons will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
