Robert J. Kelm, age 77, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland after a prolonged illness.
Born on February 8, 1946, in Lorain, OH, Robert was raised in Birmingham, OH, and had been a resident of Vermilion for the past 51 years.
A graduate of Firelands High School in 1964, Robert served proudly as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, earning the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with a Bronze Star.
Known as a man's man and for his strong work ethic, Robert dedicated 54 years of his life as an electrician for IBEW #129, retiring in 2002.
A devoted member of the community, he was a life member and past Commander of VFW Post #7576, also achieving the honor of All State Commander of the VFW. He also held a life membership in AMVETS Post #22, was a former member of the American Legion Post #397, and had been a former Mason with the Gibson Masonic Lodge #301 in Wakeman. Robert cherished the outdoors, tending to his portion of the family farm, and had a deep appreciation for animals, including his dogs, tractors, and classic car collection.
Robert is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 52 years, Marianne (nee Krasienko) Kelm of Vermilion, OH; son, Robert J. Kelm II; grandchildren, Austin and Bridget Carter; great-grandson, Memphis; and a great-granddaughter expected in April. He is also survived by his sister, Esther Parker.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heidi Kelm Carter, in 2020, as well as his parents, Awalt and Irene (nee Schaeffer) Kelm, brother Awalt "Sonny" Kelm Jr., and sister Linda Kelm.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, there will be no formal service.
