Robert S. Majjasie

Robert S. Majjasie, 85, of Lorain passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice of St. Joseph following a short illness. He was born December 2, 1930 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident. Robert graduated from Lorain High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. After the service he was employed by the Freuhauf Co. and by the Eastern Greyhound Lines. Robert retired from Ford Motor Co., Avon Lake after 31 & 1/2 years. He was an active member of the UAW Local 2000 Retirees proudly serving as its president from 1996 to 2011. He also served as a board member for UAW Local 2000, was a member of UAW-CAP Council, board member of UAW Region B, Trustee of V.F.W. Post 8686, member AARP, and former board member on the Lorain County Dept. of Aging. He loved his family and visiting with them, his home, reading, puzzles, the family pets, and traveling with his wife. They particularly enjoyed traveling to the National Parks, but their highlight was a trip to New Zealand, and Australia for an anniversary. As an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain, Robert served as a Eucharistic Minister, an Usher, and on various committees. He was a Holy Name Society member where he served many terms as president. He was named Holy Name Man of the Year in 1996. On June 15, 1957 he married Mary Ann (nee Dancak) and she survives along with children Sharon Majjasie Denbow of Lorain, and Gregory Majjasie of Morgan Hill, CA; grandchildren Samantha Denbow Santana, Julie Denbow Martinez, Jessica Denbow, Derek and Jeremy Majjasie; great-grandchildren Nathanial Denbow, and Ciara Martinez. He was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Madeleine (nee Carey), sister Betty Majjasie, and brothers William and Gerald Majjasie. The family will receive friends Friday, March 11th from 4-8 p.m. at Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home & Cremation Service 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Prayers will be said at the funeral home Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain where Lorain Honor Guard V.F.W. Post 451, and American Legion Post 30 will conduct military graveside honors. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Anthony of Padua Church or the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
