Robert McCann

Robert Jeffery McCann, 75, of Amherst, passed away Friday, October 9, 2026, at Mercy Health New Life Hospice following a lengthy illness.

Born July 2, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio, Robert had been a resident of Amherst for the past 31 years, having moved from Avon Lake.

He graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1969 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Siena Heights University in 1974. Robert spent much of his career with Handleman Company as a music vendor, stocking shelves at major retailers, including Walmart, Kmart, and Woolworth. Following his retirement, he continued working at Walmart in Oberlin, where he spent 10 years in the electronics department.

Music was a lifelong passion for Robert that extended far beyond his career. He enjoyed collecting and listening to vinyl records, playing multiple musical instruments, and performing with various bands throughout the years. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family.

Robert is survived by his son, Adam (Sarah) McCann of Amherst; his daughter, Michalena McCann of Vermilion; his three grandchildren, Ayden, Avianna, and Hunter; his brother, Jim McCann of Kentucky; and his sister, Sally Mesarosh of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan and Bernice (née Masson) McCann.

Private services will be held.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Mercy Health New Life Hospice by Compassus, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
