Robert Opal

Robert “Bear” Opal, 56, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 17, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Born on September 17, 1969, in Avon, OH, Bear made Vermilion his home for many years. Known for his big heart and even bigger personality, he spent much of his life working as a mechanic for several local businesses, including L&M Towing, Romps, Parsons, and the Vermilion Country Club.

Bear had a passion for golfing, boating, and rebuilding cars and motorcycles. He adored animals and had a special way of taking in strays-both human and four-legged-offering kindness, support, and a helping hand whenever it was needed.

He is survived by his wife, Christine (née Covill) Opal, of Vermilion; his son, Mark Covill; his daughter, Olivia Reynolds; his brothers, Kelly and Scott Opal; his sisters, Diane and Cindy Opal; and countless beloved strays who found comfort in his generosity and friendship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and June (née Stricklette) Opal.

A celebration of Bear’s life will be announced at a later date.
