Robert “Bob” Sterbenz, 91, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Lake Pointe Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born May 18, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, and made Lorain his home for many years.
Bob graduated from Collinwood High School in 1952 and went on to attend Case Institute of Technology, earning his master’s degree in 1962. He began his professional career with BF Goodrich in the Chemical Division as an engineer where he dedicated more than 35 years to the company. He then worked at University Hospitals in Cleveland in the Computer Information Systems Dept for 10 years, retiring in 2003.
Bob had a deep appreciation for music and the arts. He enjoyed playing the piano and guitar, listening to classical music, and spending time on the golf course. He also loved dining out, exploring new restaurants, and was member of a local wine club. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his partner, Jean Szymanski; his children, Eric (Carol) Sterbenz, Paul (Joanne) Sterbenz, Kurt (Jacqui) Sterbenz, Kristin (Pat) Debracy, Frank Sterbenz, and Elizabeth (Juan) Sterbenz-De La Torre; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (nee Bale) Sterbenz in 2000, and his parents, Albert and Hannah (nee Kracker) Sterbenz.
Private services will be held with inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.
