Robert Joseph Stovicek, 90, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born October 5, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, grew up in Valley City, and made his home in Vermilion for more than 50 years after moving from North Olmsted.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1964.
A talented and visionary professional, Robert owned and operated R.J. Stovicek & Associates, LLC for more than 70 years. Throughout his distinguished career, he specialized in landscape architecture and sculptural design, creating spaces that blended artistry with nature and left a lasting impact on countless communities and countries. His work has taken him to 31 of the States and many countries including Australia, China, and the Philippines.
A devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Robert generously shared his time and talents through his involvement in many parish activities and the Knights of Columbus. He had a lifelong passion for designing gardens, parks, and outdoor spaces where others could experience the beauty and tranquility of nature. Whether working on a landscape project, creating sculptures, or spending time outdoors, Robert found joy in bringing beauty into the world. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Sheila Stovicek; children, Michael (MaryLou) Stovicek, Nicole (James) Yokie, and Christopher Stovicek; and grandchildren, Kyra, Sydney, Kai, Myrissa, Quinn, Dominic, Peter, and Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nettie (née Mares) Stovicek; his son, Sandy Stovicek; and siblings, Eilleen, Angela, Richard, and Carol.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Prayers will be offered at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Riddle Funeral Home to assist with expenses.
