SHEFFIELD LAKE - Robert L. Widener, 86 of Sheffield Lake, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Malachi House in Cleveland, following a lenghty illness. He was born August 11, 1923 in Damascus, Virginia, moving to the Lorain area in 1945. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Robert worked as a shovel mechanic at Thew Shovel Company in Lorain for 36 years, retiring in 1978. He attended First Baptist Church in Sheffield Lake. He is survived by his wife, Bernice (nee Rollyson) of Sheffield Lake; sons, Larry Widener of Asheville, North Carolina, Richard Widener of Sheffield Lake and Brad Widener of Lorain; 4 step-sons and 6 step-daughters; 2 grandchildren and 28 step-grandchildren; numerous great-step-grandchildren; sister, Mary Durbin of Elyria. He was preceded-in-death by his parents, Robert and Maggie (nee Greer) Widener, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Friends may call on Monday, April 5, 2010 from 6-9 pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain.
