Rosanna Lucille "Nan" (Metzger) Hohman died peacefully in her sleep on August 13, 2023 in Avon, Ohio. She was the daughter of Francis and Olivia (Schlachter) Metzger, born on March 5,1932 in Berwick, Big Spring Township, Seneca County, Ohio. Nan attended Frenchtown School and graduated from New Riegel High School. Her days of growing up on the family farm and watching her nieces and nephews led to her being a hard worker and to love caring for children. Prior to marriage she worked as a telephone operator. In 1953, Nan married Joseph Hohman at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine in Carey OH, a union which lasted until Joe’s death in 2015. They lovingly raised their seven children in Vermilion, Ohio where they were active members of St. Mary Church. She worked as a playground supervisor for St. Mary School when her youngest son entered grade school, and for many years provided childcare in her home for dozens of young children. Nan was always proud to see her all her kids grow up and achieve life’s milestones.
In 2017, Nan was honored as the “Catholic Women of the Year” by the Vermilion Knights of Columbus Council #4539 for her life-long participation in her parish, supporting the activities and ministries at St. Mary’s, especially being a Eucharistic Minister and supplying baked goods for many events.
Nan was a life-long reader, winning grade school prizes for reading the most books in a school year and recording thousands of books read. Her love of reading lead her to volunteer at the Ritter Library book sales for several years. Above all, she valued the time she spent with all her family.
Nan was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband of 62 years, Joe; daughters, Rebecca Droll and Mary Elizabeth Hohman; son, Terrence Hohman; grandson, Carlos Hohman; son-in-law, Robert L. Williamson, Jr.; and siblings, Fritz Metzger, Lucy Flechtner, Marcia Gerber, Gertrude Hess, Cyril Metzger, Theresa Schindler, Mark Metzger, Rita DeRose, Elizabeth Metzger, and John Metzger.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Donna Durbin; children, Vicki Williamson, Timothy and Lenore Hohman, Joseph and Christine Hohman, William and Joyce Hohman and son-in-law, Jerry Droll; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Nan is also survived by in-laws Raymond Schindler, Caroline Metzger, Dwain and Barbara Hohman, Patricia Briggs, Sharon Williamson and TerriLynn Hohman, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
