Ross Wayne Hoff, 89, of Vermilion, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center following a sudden illness.
Born May 11, 1936, in Lorain, Ohio, Ross was a lifelong resident of Vermilion. He graduated from Vermilion High School in 1954 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Ross spent 30 years working as a car repairman for Norfolk and Southern Railroad before retiring in 2000. He had attended the Birmingham Methodist Church in Wakeman. He was a member of the American Legion Post #397, AMVETS Post #22, and a former member of the Vermilion Family YMCA. Ross enjoyed staying active and had a passion for restoring antique radios.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol (née Radde) Hoff of Vermilion; his children, Tony Hoff of Vermilion, Susan Southwell of Lavonia, MI, Brenda Burke of Norwalk, and Pam Sapp of Norwalk; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, brothers, Richard E. Hoff and Bill Hoff; and his sister, Diana (Dave) Downs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Offutt and Edith (née Lassen) Ross; his son, Ross Hoff, his daughter, Annette Holland, his brother, David E. Hoff; his sister, Barbara Hoff, and his son-in-law, Robert Southwell.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Military honors will be presented immediately prior to the service. Private inurnment will follow at Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst.
