Roy T. Smith

Roy T. Smith, 82, of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness. He was born February 9, 1933 in Lawrence Co., AL, and had been a Vermilion area resident since 1954. Roy worked for Wakefield Brass, ITT-Wakefield Corp., and Lithonia Downlighting, for 40 years retiring in 1995. He was a member of Amvets Post #22 and the American Legion #397. He enjoyed talking on the CB radio, hunting, and going to Turkey Shoots. He is survived by his sons, Carl D. Smith of Vermilion, Don D. Smith of Elyria, Joseph R. Smith of Vermilion, and Dean A. Smith of Lorain; brother, Clifford Smith of AL; and sister, Irene Cutchens of AL. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence Louise (nee Rogal) Smith in 2006; parents, Oscar and Lula (nee Haynes); brothers, Clarence, Palmer, Clyde, John Paul, and Verner Smith; sisters, Louise Smith and Elsie Brown; and half sister, Lucy (nee Gibson) Stilman. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 2 until the time of the service at 4 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Chaplin Christopher Robinson will officiate.
