Russell Edward Hornig, age 86, of Vermilion, died Saturday, March 6, 2004 in Community Health Partners in Lorain. He was born on February 13, 1918 in Vermilion, Ohio and has been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a US Army Veteran serving from 1941-1945. He attended the Sandusky Business College, was a member of the AMVETS Post 22, VFW Post 7576, American Legion Post 397 all in Vermilion, Disabled American Veterans and IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers), Local 998 in Vermilion. He worked as a material dispatcher for the former Wakefield Brass Company and ITT in Vermilion for 32 years, retiring in 1981. Survivors include his wife, Bettie Ellen Hornig of Vermilion. Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl J. and Gertrude (nee Bartlett) Hornig and a brother, Robert Hornig. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 8, 2004 from2-4 / 7-9pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 11:00am at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Military honors will be conducted by the Vermilion Veterans Council. In lieu of folowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 43099 North Ridge Road 254, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
