Ruth Vernadine Kratchen

Ruth Vernadine Kratchen (nee Turner), 94, of Vermilion, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Mill Manor Nursing Home after a short illness. Ruth was born August 2, 1919 in Barberton, OH, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past two years moving from Elyria. Ruth had worked in a factory during WWII and then for Higbee's Department Store in the hats and wigs department. She was a member of Lake Ave. Untied Church of Christ, Elyira; the Jolly 60's with the Baptist Church, Elyria, and had been the Chaplin for the American Legion Aux. Post 12 for 25 years. She is survived by her, sons, Dale (Beverly) Kratchen of Peachtree City, GA and Kay (Scottie) Kratchen of Chesapeake, VA; daughters, Joyce (Douglas) Laurence of Grafton and Jane Short of Vermilion;19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Kratchen; parents, Harry and Anna (nee Mohler) Turner; 4 brothers: and twin sister, Bette Fidler.
