Ruth V. Shaffer, 94, passed away peacefully on November 8 at her home. Born in Omaha, Nebraska January 6, 1921, she had resided in Lorain the majority of her life. Her first job, at age 20- a proud time of which she spoke- was working for Father Flanagan at Boys' Town in Omaha. She met her husband, Al, at the Army base in Omaha, where he was stationed and she worked as a secretary. They later came to Lorain- his home- and were married in 1944. After raising her three children, she was a legal secretary for most of her working life. She is survived by her children Deborah Saltis (Tom) of Vermilion; Patricia Cardarelli (Ron) of Lorain; and Albert of Lorain; grandchildren Stephen, Dominic, Michael, David and Denise; great-grandson Tyler; and nephews John and Paul Lof of Omaha, and David Lof of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al, in 1972; her parents Axel and Eugenia Johnson and sister Betty Lof all of Omaha, Nebraska. Ruth was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Lorain since her coming here in 1944. A special thanks to Pastor Karen Hollingsworth of Faith Church for her many visits to my mother during her illness. A private family service is planned.
