Ruth S. Sheldon (nee Stafford), 81, of Lorain, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at EMH Regional Health Center after a 3 1/2 year illness. She was born February 18, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio and had been a Vermilion resident 32 years. She had recently lived 8 months in Lorain and had raised her family in Carlisle Township. She was a math teacher for the Midview District and had taught in the elementary, middle and high schools. She also substituted for many years in the Vermilion District. She graduated from Bowling Green State University. She was an avid member of the Vermilion Boat Club where she sailed with the Wet Hens. She volunteered for many Vermilion community activities and was a member of the Vermilion Education Foundation. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, swimming and spending time with her family. She was especially proud of her heritage with the Sons and Daughters of the 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Sheffield Lake. She is survived by her sons, Dick (Pat) Sheldon of Avon, Don Sheldon of Vermilion, Dave (Debbie) Sheldon of Vermilion; grandchildren, Jeff, Cindy, Sarah, Mark, Erin, David and Jason Sheldon; and a great grandchild, Alexis Sheldon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Treva (nee Merriman) Stafford, and a sister, Marge Baskey. A Celebration of her Life will be held at the Vermilion Boat Club, 5416 Liberty Ave, Vermilion, Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 1 pm, Matthew Humphrey, Life Celebrant, will officiate.
