Ruth A. Whyte

Ruth A. Whyte (nee Haag) 100, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Kingston of Vermilion. Born October 30, 1909 in Elyria, she had been a Vermilion resident since 2008 moving from Lorain. She graduated from Elyria High School. Ruth had worked for the pharmacy at Elyria Memorial Hospital and she had also worked for a dentist in Oberlin. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lorain and had been a member of the Elyria Congregational Church, Lorain Yacht Club, and many clubs and organizations. She played piano and won a piano contest playing dueling pianos with Kay Kane at the Ohio Theater. The team "Ruth and Kay" enjoyed the distinction of being the first radio two-piano team to broadcast over WJAY, Cleveland. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and her greatest joy was raising her 2 daughters. Survivors include her daughter, Nina Hedrich of Vermilion; granddaughter, Amy MacKay; grandson, Robert Mutach; great-grandchildren, Sean MacKay; and Nev MacKay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Whyte in 1996; daughter, Mary Mutach, brother, Albert Haag; & son-in-law William Hedrich and her parents George and Olive Pearl (nee Fowl) Haag. At Ruth's request, private family graveside services will be held at North Murray Ridge Cemetery, Elyria. In Ruth's memory, she requested that you perform a kindness to someone with a full heart and a smile or a donation may be made to New Life Hospice of St. Joseph 5255 N.
