Ruth A. Whyte

Ruth A. Whyte (nee Haag) 100, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Kingston of Vermilion. Born October 30, 1909 in Elyria, she had been a Vermilion resident since 2008 moving from Lorain. She graduated from Elyria High School. Ruth had worked for the pharmacy at Elyria Memorial Hospital and she had also worked for a dentist in Oberlin. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lorain and had been a member of the Elyria Congregational Church, Lorain Yacht Club, and many clubs and organizations. She played piano and won a piano contest playing dueling pianos with Kay Kane at the Ohio Theater. The team "Ruth and Kay" enjoyed the distinction of being the first radio two-piano team to broadcast over WJAY, Cleveland. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and her greatest joy was raising her 2 daughters. Survivors include her daughter, Nina Hedrich of Vermilion; granddaughter, Amy MacKay; grandson, Robert Mutach; great-grandchildren, Sean MacKay; and Nev MacKay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Whyte in 1996; daughter, Mary Mutach, brother, Albert Haag; & son-in-law William Hedrich and her parents George and Olive Pearl (nee Fowl) Haag. At Ruth's request, private family graveside services will be held at North Murray Ridge Cemetery, Elyria.
