Salomieja Solowiej (nee Lukasziewicz), 101, of Lorain, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain after a short illness. She was born October 8, 1910 in Poland and has been a Lorain resident since 1961 moving from Poland. Salmieja was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Lorain where she had been active with the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the United Polish Club Aux. and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, and cooking. She is survived by her daughters, Leonarda Ochenkowski of Lorain and Teresa and her husband Peter Orynchak of Lorain; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Solowiej in 1973; parents, Konstanty and Helena (nee Sanuk) Lukasziewicz; daughter, Helen Yakowec; son, Stanley Solowiej; 2 infant children; sisters, Rose and Stella, and brother John. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 26,2012 from 4-8 pm at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio where the Nativity BVM Altar and Rosary Society will have a Rosary service at 6:00 pm. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at 9:30 am followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chruch, 418 W. 15th St. Lorain.
