Salvatore 'Sam' Poltrone

Salvatore "Sam" Poltrone, 91, of Lorain, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center ICU, following a brief illness. He was born May 22, 1923 in Buffalo, New York and had lived in Lorain for over 85 years. Sam was a World War II Veteran of the Army Air Corps. He obtained the rank of Sergeant and proudly served in the European Theater during the War. He was employed as a Cement Mason for over 46 years and had served as an officer of Cement Masons and Bricklayers, Local 34. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Lorain, and also a member of the Italian American Veterans Post No. 1 in Lorain. Sam was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. He is survived by his sons, Ronald (Lois) and Dennis (Karen); daughter, Deborah Poltrone; grandchildren, Melissa (Lynn) Bristow, Christopher (Kristi), Brian (Andrea), Gregory, and Carrie Poltrone; 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ann (the late James) Marshall and Josephine (Richard) Feldkamp. Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine (nee Buksar); parents, Leonardo and Carmela (nee DiMare); and brothers, Joseph, Dominic, John, and Sebastian "Yano." The family will receive friends Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 3-6 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th St., Lorain. Father Bob Glepko will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, where the Italian American Veterans Post No. 1 will conduct Military Honors.
