Samuel "Sam" T. Bartlett, 75, of Vermilion, died Friday, October 7, 2022 at Louis Stokes VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born November 25, 1946, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. His family moved to the Vermilion area when he was a child where he was a resident most of his life. The last few years he was a resident of the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
Sam graduated from Vermilion High School in 1965 where he grew his love of music as a drummer in the band The Travelers. Enjoying music would remain a passion of his throughout his life.
Sam was proud of his service in the US Marine Corp. He enlisted in 1966 and became an operator in the Third Amtrac Battalion. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. While serving he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Gold Star in lieu of a second Award of the Purple Heart. He also received a Presidential Unit Citation as part of the Third Marine Division.
He began his career as an electrician before starting and growing his own General Contracting Construction business doing work for over 30 years in Vermilion and the surrounding areas.
He was a member of AMVETS Post #22, the VFW Post #1662, the American Legion Post #397 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Amherst. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends where he was often the “Life of the Party”. He had a memorable smile that could brighten up the room.
He is survived by his sons, Sam Jr. (Jennifer) Bartlett of Marysville and Justin Bartlett of Amherst; grandchildren, Austin (Talia), Addison, Natalie, Adam, Andrew, and Mari; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Angus (Sandy) Bartlett of Vermilion and Dennis (Renee) Bartlett of LaGrange, and his sisters, Eileen (Greg) Abraham of Amherst and Kathy (Dave) Lengyel of Lorain; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertram and Mary (nee Balmer) Bartlett; daughter, Mary Ann Bartlett; and his brother, Gregory Bartlett.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.
Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on November 16, 2022 at 2 pm with military honors.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
