Samuel William Law Jr., 87, of Vermilion passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Sam was born July 25, 1928 in Norwalk, OH and had lived most of his life in Vermilion. He was a graduate of Vermilion High School and was a 4 year veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving in the Korean Conflict. He also served active reserve for 3 years. He attained the rank of Staff Sgt. with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and received the Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars along with 6 other medals. Sam was employed with RCA Service Company for 14 years, and retired from Sears & Roebuck, Elyria after 25 years as a repairman. He was a life member of the Vermilion VFW Post 7675 where he was a Past Quartermaster for 6 years. He was also a life member of the Vermilion Amvets Post 22, and American Legion Post 397. He taught basic boating courses for the United States Power Squadron for 18 years. Sam was an avid golfer, played baseball for the Lorain City League, and enjoyed boating and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Ann (nee Noonan) Law of Vermilion; daughter, Wendy Hammer of Vermilion; sons, Randall (Patricia) Law of Lorain and Mark (Tammy) Law of Louisville, KY; stepsons, Mark Steigner of Grafton, and Shawn (Natalie) Steigner of Madison; grandchildren, Jillian (Andrew) Dellisanti, Drew Peters, Sally (Mike) Errico, Nicholas (Heather) Law, Scott (Sarah) Law, Christopher (Kristi) Law, and Brent Law; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, Samuel W. Sr. and Margaret (nee Sprankel) Law; son-in-law, John Hammer; and step-son, Jeffery Steigner. Friends may call Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Military honors will be presented by the Vermilion Veterans Council on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Rich Lesaganich will immediately follow the veterans service.
