Sandra J Burchak

Sandra J. Burchak (nee Kader), 75, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully Friday, October 21, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice from complications of multiple sclerosis. Sandy was born March 7, 1941 in Cleveland, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 36 years moving from Cleveland. She graduated from John Marshall High School and worked as a secretary for the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority and the Cuyahoga Metro Housing Authority. She enjoyed tole painting, gardening, and knitting. You could always find Sandy volunteering at community events around town, including the Ritter Library, the Wooley Bear Festival, and St. Mary Catholic Church's functions. She was a member of St. Mary Church, the Red Hat Society, various knitting circles, and the Alter Rosary Society. She was an advocate for Share-A-Ride through the Sandusky Transit System. Share-A-Ride provides transportation for seniors and persons with disabilities. She is survived by her son, Christopher (Barbara) Gallagher; step-children: Lori Burchak, Kitty Calomino, Beth Samarin, Bill Burchak, and Peggy (Kurt) Kaptur; sister, Donna (Ronald) Gilbert; brother, John E. (Nancy) Kader; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, nieces: Kimberly, Kelly, and Ronna, and nephew, Kenny. She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Marion R. (nee Moore) Kader, first husband, Thomas A. Gallagher; second husband, William E. Burchak; step son, Michael Burchak, and niece, Roxana. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Closing prayers will be said Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. The Reverend Ron Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at noon at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.
