Sandra Gayle Eakin

Sandra Gayle Eakin (nee Slone), 72, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

She was born November 4, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was a lifelong resident of Vermilion.

Sandra attended Vermilion High School and started her career at the YMCA before dedicating over 20 years of service to the Mildred Early Senior Center, where she touched many lives through her compassion, kindness, and friendship.

She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, cooking and crafts, especially painting and making stained glass. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family. Sandra will be remembered for her creativity and the love she shared with those around her.

She is survived by her children, Hollin Eakin, Arwen (Thomas) Decker, and Laurelin (Josh) Eakin; grandchildren, Arcadia, Miles, Addy, Jaxon, Colton, Dakota, and Harlan; sister, Hazel Bostic; and brothers, Thomas Slone and Sidney Slone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Betty (nee Fourroux) Slone; grandson, Wyatt Decker; sister, Gloria Slone; and former husband, Lewis Eakin.

Honoring Sandra’s wishes, no public services will be held.
