Sandra Jean Frankel

Sandra Jean Frankel (nee Griffith), 49 of Avon Lake, formerly of Lorain, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 in St. John West Shore Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born on December 25, 1960 in Lorain, Sandy graduated from Lorain High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kent State University. She lived most of her life in Lorain, moving to Avon Lake 3 years ago. Sandy cared deeply for those challenged by life's greater difficulties and strove to be a source of support and encouragement in their lives. For nearly a decade she was particularly devoted to helping others overcome addictions. She also spent two years tutoring disadvantaged children as part of a "No Child Left Behind" program. She was forever changed by the lives of the people she touched. Sandy was an extraordinary cook and a lover of shopping for the latest style. She adored the sun, sandy beaches and trips to Las Vegas. Her beauty of heart, mind and presence, her sense of humor, her friendship and her love are already sorely missed. She is survived by her precious son, Jared Ross Frankel of Lorain; former husband and dear friend, Drew Frankel; sisters, Debbie Griffith Berki of Lorain, Teri Griffith Dragonetti of Elyria and Denise Griffith Corcino of Sheffield Twp.; and her companion, John Minzenberger of Avon Lake. She was preceded-in-death by her parents, Jennings and Alma (nee Hall) Griffith. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. A Life Celebration service will be on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Life Celebrant Matthew Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
