Sebastian T. Poltrone

Sebastian T. "Yano" Poltrone, 85 of Lorain, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in Community Health Partners following a short illness. He was born May 10, 1922 in Buffalo, New York and has lived in Lorain most of his life. He attended the Garden Avenue School in Lorain and before entering the service, he worked with the CCC from 1939-1940 building roads in Oregon. He served in the United States Air Force from 1942-1946. He was inducted at Camp Perry with the 556 Air force Base and was sent to Emery-Riddle School of Aviation in Florida to train in airplane and engine mechanics and depot repair. He attained the rank of sergeant and received the American Theater Ribbon Medal, the WWII Victory and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired in 1984 from the Ford Motor Company in Lorain after 22 years. He also was employed with Sam Ross Construction and was a certified welder with the Lorain shipyards. He was a lifetime member of the IAV Post 1 in Lorain, serving as a Steward, Sr. Vice Commander and the Health and Welfare Officer. He also served with the Color Guard and at the International Festival he worked the IAV pizza booths for many years. Yano was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter where he served as an usher and was affiliated with the United Polish Club. He also served as the Health and Wellness Officer for the UAW, bowled in the IAV league and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara Poltrone (nee DelSignore) of Lorain; son, Leonard Poltrone of Lorain; daughter, Carol Kos of Amherst; grandson, Matthew Kos of Amherst; brother, Sam Poltrone of Lorain; sisters, Ann Marshall and Josephine Feldkamp, both of Lorain. He was preceded-in-death by his parents, Leonard and Carmella (nee DiMare) Poltrone, and brothers, Joseph, John and Dominic. Friends may call Friday, December 14, 2007 from 4-8 pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Closing prayers will be said at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Fr. Chuck Henkle, OFM Conv., associate pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment with military honors provided by the IAV Post 1 will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
