Sharon Tomshack

March 24, 1938 — August 16, 2021

Sharon A. Tomshack (nee MacAuley), 83, of Vermilion, died Monday, August 16, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness. She was born March 24, 1938 in Hancock, (Houghton County) MI and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 45 years moving from Sheffield Lake. She originally attended Visitation High School in Detroit, MI where she excelled in basketball and softball. She also met her husband-to-be, Michael Tomshack, Sr., while at Visitation. Sharon was the owner operator of the Towne Tea Room located in Old Jibs Corner from 1977 - 1980. She then went back to college and became an RN working for Mercy Hospital for 20 years retiring as the charge nurse in 2000. Sharon was a member of St. Mary Catholic Parish, Vermilion, and participated in the St. Thomas parish choir, in addition to countless volunteer hours for, both, St. Mary and St. Thomas parishes. She also enjoyed reading and cooking, preparing thousands of soups for the Soda Grill in Vermilion where she had been part owner. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and school activities. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Pamela) Tomshack, Jr. of Vermilion and Christopher (Lisa) Tomshack, DC of Avon; daughters, Elizabeth Ballou of Vermilion and Amy (Michael) DeFilippo of Amherst, and Margaret (Jeffery) Austin of Vermilion; 13 grandchildren: Melinda, Leisa, Margaret, Abigail, Shannon, Alexandra, Christopher, John, Connor, Robert, Kyle, Kaitlyn, and Zachary; 8 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Steven MacAuley of CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael E. Tomshack, Sr. in 2006; parents, Duncan and Olive D. (nee Fontaine) MacAuley; and her granddaughters, Amber Miller and Mary Ann DeFilippo. Private graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in honor of Sharon A.
