Shirley J Claus

Shirley J. Claus (nee Snell), 84, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Stein Hospice after a lengthy illness. She was born February 2, 1930 in Imperial, NE, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 9 years moving from the Bay Village area where she had resided for over 30 years. Shirley owned her own antique business for 20 years, and had also worked as a stenographer for the Veterans Administration and the Army. Shirley had previously worked as a medical secretary for a short time. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Vermilion. Shirley was an exceptional housewife, and enjoyed antiquing, painting, sewing, and needlepoint. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Fred R. Claus; son, Russell (Jill) Claus of Vermilion Twp.; daughters, Mary Ann (Paul) Safer of Vermilion and Carol (Ken) Klemencic, grandchildren, Ben, Lucy, Katie, and Emmy; and brothers, Don and Dick Snell. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Georgia Snell; brothers, John and Delbert Snell; and sisters Marian Harder and Dorothy Swan. Private services will be held at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Interment will follow at Rugby Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
