Shirley Jene Huffman

Shirley Jene Huffman (nee Fowler), 89, of Vermilion, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Stein Hospice after a brief illness. Shirley was born November 20, 1926 in Lorain, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 62 years. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1944 and worked for the Plain Dealer. Being a homemaker and proud mother to her 9 children, she loved traveling the world, having visited six continents, seeing the sights on many cruises, and visited all the major league baseball stadiums. She enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, reading, and watching classic movies. Shirley was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Vermilion, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a past president of the PTA for Lake Elementary School, past Cub Scout Den Mother and she taught Sunday School at the Old Stone Methodist Church in Amherst. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Troy) Werner of Huron and Gwendolyn (Dan) Huffman-Schaeffer of Bellevue; sons, James L. Huffman Jr. of Cincinnati, Timothy (Karen) Huffman of Strongsville, Kim Charles (Vicki) Huffman of Fremont, Richard (Kimberly) Huffman of Huron, Robert (Cindy) Huffman of Weston, John (Cindy) Huffman of Norfolk, VA, and Ken (Alicia) Huffman of Eastlake; 23 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Huffman in 2013; parents, Edward and Edith Fowler (nee Thomas); and brother, Donald Rae Fowler. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. The Reverend Roger Skelley-Watts will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
