Shirley M Niesen, 81 of Vermilion, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Mill Manor Nursing Home, Vermilion, after a 4 month illness. She was born March 9, 1927 in Lorain. She had been a Vermilion resident since 1993. She lived in Lorain from 1954-1993, and had also lived in Florida and Elyria. She had worked in Dr. Haley's office in Vermilion, as a ward secretary at Lorain Community Hospital, and as a home health care worker. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion where she was active in Marmaru, Bible Study and Diaconate. She enjoyed gardening, reading and she was especially creative in needle craft. Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Niesen of Vermilion, and cousins, Harvey Heys of Sandusky, Edwin (Beverly) Heys of Racine, WI, and Floyd Michael (Anita) Heys of Columbus. Preceding her in death were her husband, Thomas James Niesen, Sept. 13, 1992 and her parents, Karl D. and Mildred J. (nee Heys) Loucks. A memorial services will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Street, Vermilion, Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. The Reverends Wendell Brooker, pastor, and Kristi Foster, associate pastor, will co-officiate.
