Shirley M. Ostang

Shirley M. Ostang (nee Prock), 81, of Lorain, died Monday, December 10, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion where she had been a resident for the past 8 years. She was born April 3, 1931 in Ravenna, OH, and had been a Lorain resident for most of her life. She was a 1949 graduate of Lorain High School. Shirley worked in the office for Fruehauf Trailer, the Miller's Country Place in Avon as a hostess, and at the former Spitzer Lorain Renaissance Hotel as the food and beverage director. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, and its Marion Guild, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her family and friends, as well as flower gardening and traveling. She is survived by sons Larry (Elaine) Ostang of Lorain, and David (Shelly) Ostang of Grapevine, TX; three grandchildren Nicholas (Diane), Brittney (Reid), and Mitchell; two great-grandchildren Samantha, and Rebecca; brothers, James and Thomas, and sisters Laura, and Joyce. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Jessie (Deptowicz) Prock, husband of 32 years, Jerry Albert Ostang in 1983, son Jeffery in 1979, brothers, Simon, Richard, and Ronald; and sister, Frances. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 14th from 3-7 p.m.at the Riddle Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain . A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain with Reverend Fr. Richard Hudak officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
