Shirley E. Reffner (nee Harris), 93 of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. She was born June 27, 1916 in Montreal, Canada. She has been a Vermilion resident for the past 30 years, moving from McClain, Virginia. Following her graduation from Kenmore High School, she attended Hiram College and graduated from Baldwin Wallace College. She taught elementary education in the Berea, North Olmsted and Brunswick school systems. She was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational. Shirley enjoyed the company of many friends, especially over lunch at the Main Street Grill, where she has a sandwich named after her design - "The Betty". She is survived by a son, Henry "Hank" Reffner of Vermilion; daughters, Peggy Steensland of Mt. Gilead and Molly Nagy of Florida; 4 grandchildren and 1great-grandchild; half-brother, Robert Harris of Michigan and half-sister, Betty Sue Harris of Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Reffner on February 11, 1989; step-sister, Freddie Onisko and her parents Robert and Shirley (nee Williamson) Harris. Friends may call Monday, March 15, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
