Stefan Jonsson, 79, of Vermilion, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013 at Lake Pointe Health Center after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Magnea (nee Kristjansdottir) Jonsson; daughter, Anna (Mark) Gerda of Simpsonville, KY; sons, Jon (Wanda) of Vermilion and Kristjan (Nicole) of Holland, OH; grandchildren: Kate, Maggie, Stefan, Daniel, Devin, Jenna, and Will; brother, Sveinn Oli and sister, Asa both of Reykjavik, Iceland. Stefan was born on March 2, 1934 in Roskilde, Denmark to Jon Stefansson and Gerda Olsen. He moved with his family to his father's native Iceland where he grew up and maintained citizenship for his entire life. He graduated from Mentaskola Akureyri in 1951 and always enjoyed returning to Iceland for reunions with his classmates and to visit family and friends. He worked in various capacities in Iceland, Norway and Denmark, before coming to the US, including as a librarian and as an agent with Icelandair Airlines. He studied for his law degree at the University of Iceland for two years before he decided to emigrate to the Untied States. He came to the US with his family on April 10, 1971, settling in Vermilion. With the help of his brother-in-law and good friend Bill Conway, he obtained a position at Ford Motor Company, Lorain. His dedication was exemplified by the fact that he took just one sick day (to attend his son's graduation) in his 29 years at Ford. Stefan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermilion. His friends and family will always remember him fondly for his unique and wonderful sense of humor, his kind, polite manner, and his generous spirit. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, Ohio 44089. Reverend Rick Leseganich will officiate.
