Sue Capen (nee Gokel), 102, of Vermilion, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at Kingston Residence of Vermilion after a short illness. She was born June 16, 1915 in Salem, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 32 years moving from Amherst and Lorain. Sue worked in the sales department for William Taylor and Sons, Cleveland. She also helped her husband with his business, Singer Sewing Machine, Medina and worked as a clerk for Grants in Lorain. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Golden Agers, and enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, bird watching, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Ken) Cassell of Vermilion, Carol (Joe) Zsedeny of Dent, Minnesota; son, Charles (Jane) Capen of Wilmington, NC; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Capen in 1985; parents, John and Elizabeth (nee Schenker) Gokel; and her sisters, Elizabeth Everth and Anna Marie Parfitt. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 from 5-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave., Vermilion. The Reverend Richard Leseganich will officiate. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted. The family suggests memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion, OH 44089.
