Susan W. Coolidge

June 23, 1945 — July 26, 2025

Vermilion, OH/Bradenton, FL

Susan W. Coolidge (née Woolsey), 80, formerly of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain, Ohio.

Born on June 23, 1945, in Youngstown, Ohio, for the past three and a half years, Susan relocated from Florida to Vermilion, Ohio.

A dedicated educator, Susan began her teaching career in Ohio, where she spent eight years instructing and inspiring children as a second-grade teacher. She later continued her passion for teaching in Bradenton, Florida, where she taught and nurtured students for an additional 34 years before retiring. When she was with her colleague and friend Caroline Thompson, professionalism ruled the day but so did playfulness (with a dash of trouble).

Susan was a member of Elwood Park Baptist Church and Florida Teachers Union. She adored sun, sand, water and chocolate. Wherever and whenever she could be near a body of water, she was happy. She was happiest, however, when she was with family and friends sharing time together. She always brought warmth and kindness to those around her. She also loved everything feathered and furry.

She is survived by her loving children, Chad (Heidi) Coolidge of Vermilion, Ohio, and Rian (Keith) Lyday of Freeport, Florida; her cherished grandchildren, Kobe Phillips, Arabella Lyday and Mackenna Willis, her sister, Patricia Burkett, niece Jody Madeira (Matt) and extended family: the Coolidges--Judi, Bryan, Amy, Dean, Chloe, Adam, Lloyd and Adam's four children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lawson "Laws" and Mary (née Gault) Woolsey; Ida and Richard Coolidge and brother-in-law Dean Coolidge.

In keeping with her wishes, private family services will be held. Inurnment will take place in Florida at a later date, somewhere near water.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Health New Life Hospice by Compassus, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
