Susanne C. Balmert

Susanne "Sue" C. Balmert (nee Lang), 85, of Wakeman, died Monday, June 12, 2023 at her daughters home in Charlotte, NC after a sudden illness.

She was born December 12, 1937 in Lorain, OH and had lived in Florida before moving in with her daughter in Wakeman in 2022 and then recently moving to NC to live with her other daughter.

Sue had worked for McGarvey's Restaurant in Vermilion for several years when she was younger.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Parish, Vermilion and had been a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were younger. She enjoyed traveling around the United States with her husband in their motor home, eventually settling in Florida.

She is survived by her sons, James Balmert and Edward Balmert both of Lorain;  daughters, Sandra Blackford of Wakeman and Christine Adam of Charlotte, NC; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; brother, John Lang of TN; and her sisters, Elizabeth Butts of Streetsboro and Carol Balmert of Berlin Hts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Balmert in 1998; parents, Oscar and Catherine (nee Stirzaker) Lang; brother, Oscar Lang Jr.; and her daughter in law, Rose Balmert.

The family will receive friends on June 30, 2023  from 9 a.m. until the time of a prayer service at 10  a.m at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am at St. Mary Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.  Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
