Thelma Pauline Grisel

Thelma Pauline Grisel (nee Schieferstein), 97, of Vermilion, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 16, 2016 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born December 25, 1918 in Amherst township to Carl and Martha (nee Strauss) Schieferstein. Thelma moved to Vermilion in 1946 after marrying John N Grisel. They were happily married for 57 years, until John's death on April 27, 2004. Thelma graduated from Amherst Central School in 1937 and then worked as a book keeper for Mischka's Market and as a clerk/relief manager for Kroger's of Vermilion, Huron, and Amherst. She was an 83 year member of the Vermilion Evangelical & Reformed Church and was also a member of the Merrymakers since 1933. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, puzzles, and fostering children. She is survived by her sons, Charles R. (Lois) Grisel of Vermilion and Rick "Dolly" Grisel of CA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Philip) Cramer and Charles W. (Colleen McCale) Grisel both of Vermilion, great grandsons, Daniel and Harrison Grisel; her very special niece who was like a daughter to her, Linda (Henry) Grisel - Kowalski; and special nieces Shelly Johnson, Amy (Jason) Wells and their children Jared, Taylor, Jacob and Madison Johnson and Laura, Jason, and Abbey Wells. She was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Grisel; daughter, Holly Christian; parents, Carl and Martha (nee Strauss) Schieferstein; and brothers, Milton and Carl Schieferstein. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. The Reverend Nick Cacciatore will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Thelma asked that memorial contributions be made to the Vermilion Food Pantry, 990 State Street, P.O. Box 228, Vermilion, OH 44089 or the Vermilion E&R Church, Ohio at Grand Street, Vermilion, OH 44089, instead of flowers because there are so many in need. Thelma's wish to her family and friends: "Enjoy your lives and be good to each other. Good times or bad, there is nothing that will ever take the place of our wonderful family.
