Theodore Whatley

June 2, 1935 — November 3, 2006

Theodore "Ted" Leroy Whatley, 71 of Vermilion, died Saturday, November 3, 2006 at his home after a short illness. He was born June 2, 1935 in Dinuba, CA. He has been a Vermilion resident for the past 2 years moving from Denver, CO where he had lived for the previous 35 years. He graduated from Vermilion High School in 1953. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1958-1962. During his enlistment, he served aboard the USS Balao, which became known from its starring role as the "pink submarine" in the 1959 motion picture "Operation Petticoat". He worked as an electrician for Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad Company for 28 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of AMVETS Post #22 in Vermilion. He enjoyed camping and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margarita (Marge) T. (nee Moralez) Whatley; a son, Buck Juanito Whatley of Denver, CO; and a sister, Karen Schmidt of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boone and Marjorie (nee Pearson) Whatley. Private family services were held. Inurnment will be in New Mexico at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Cancer Services of Erie County, 912 Perry Street N-1, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 and New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035-1450.
