Therese S. Ward

Therese Ward (née Schumm), 67, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Amherst Manor Retirement Community following a prolonged illness.

Born on September 25, 1956, in Fremont, OH, Therese had called Vermilion home for 35 years, having relocated from Portsmouth, OH.

For three decades, Therese dedicated herself to aiding others as a Chemical Dependency Counselor in Lorain County, retiring in 2021.

She found solace and community through her membership at St. Mary Catholic Parish, Vermilion, and the Vermilion College Club. Therese's passions were diverse, encompassing gardening, travel, crafting, and the joy of baking her renowned Pumpkin Rolls.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 41 years, Thomas Ward of Vermilion; her son, Colin (Maggie) Ward of North Ridgeville; her daughter, Alison Ward of Delaware, OH; her sisters, Lori (Glenn) Misner of Clyde, OH, and Lynne (Jim) Franks of Fremont; and her sister-in-law, Teri Schumm of Sandusky.

Therese was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Patricia (née Sneider) Schumm, and her brother, Michael Schumm.

Friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.
