Thomas “Tom” Barthel, 81, of Vermilion, Ohio passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the residence of his son in Richmond, Kentucky, on the opening day of deer season.
Tom was born on May 6, 1941, in Lorain, Ohio, and was the son of William and Katherine Barthel. Tom, known as “Roadkill” by coworkers, was a dedicated Ford employee for 44.6 years and enjoyed joking and telling stories with his coworkers. After retiring he spent time rebuilding a 1928 Chevy, hunting, helping his neighbors, chopping wood, delivering straw, and spending time with grandchildren, family, and friends. He was of Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Janice Chism and Carrol Pilarsh.
Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Terri Barthel; three daughters: Stacey Barthel, of Bamebridge, OH; Sherrie Mayer, of Louisville, KY; and Summer (Jamie) Warzinik, of Vermilion, OH; one son: Thomas (Laura) Barthel of Richmond, KY; Nine grandchildren: Kortney (Korey) Graziino, Dalton Edwards, Dylan Mayer, Brinklie Mayer, Emma Barthel, Whitley Barthel, Kimber Warzinik, AJ Mathis, and Kash Warzinik; Three great grandchildren: Brodie, Liliana, and Taylin; two sisters, Mary (Lenny) Henson, and Chris (Ed) Martin; a brother, Bill (Linda) Barthel; and a host of special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.
